Teach India is a volunteer-based programme that teaches English and other essential educational skills to underprivileged youth. The premise is that a cadre of trained volunteers can make an impact on the lives of thousands of young people. It is said that one in ten Indian children are now reached by the program. The campaign's first phase was a call to action, akin to an online contest that invited the general public to get involved. Eventually, a community of over 150 organizations emerged. Several corporates signed on to provide employee hours for the scheme. A network of partner NGOs implements the project. These are responsible for organizing spoken English classes and managing day-to-day affairs at teaching centers. Several other nonprofits have jumped on board as well. The most impressive aspect of the program is the sheer volume of students it has reached.
